Further information :
This oil painting on board is typical of the work of Trevor Sutton. His geometrical abstract pictures have defined horizons. His work is often atmospherically lit by a cool, pale green with darker green and brown/grey elements. The paint layers are systematically built up with visible brush strokes. The surface is finished with oil-based glaze giving a shimmering effect.

Sutton was born in 1948 in Romford, Essex. He studied at Hornsey College of Art and Birmingham and went on to win several awards and prizes. He has exhibited widely and has taught in the UK and Ireland.

‘Not One Thing II’ was given to the Gallery in 2000 by the Contemporary Art Society. The Society has given 20 works of art to the collection since the Second World War. These have helped to bring our collection up-to-date, besides providing support for emergent and leading contemporary British artists.
