Robins depicts the baths as a lively public spectacle, with elegant crowds milling around on a broad pavement and watching the bathers. The Pump Room is shown on the left.

The curious structure in the centre of the King's Bath was called the ‘Kitchen’, because it was in the hottest part of the Bath. It provided seating and shelter for bathers.

People who had been cured by the thermal waters would leave their crutches hanging on the ‘Kitchen’, once they no longer needed them.
